Day 89 – Capstone Project - Part 2

Introduction

In the second part of the capstone project, you will focus on data analysis, visualization, and presenting your findings. The goal is to not just present data, but to tell a compelling story that drives action.

Part 2: Analysis and Presentation

1. Data Analysis

This is where you will do the deep work of analyzing your data to uncover insights.

  • Execute Your Plan: Follow the data analysis plan you created in Part 1.
  • Iterate and Refine: Your initial analysis may lead to new questions. Be prepared to iterate on your analysis and refine your approach.
  • Document Everything: Keep a detailed record of your analysis, including your code, queries, and any assumptions you make.

2. Data Visualization

Data visualization is a powerful tool for communicating your findings. A good visualization can make complex data easy to understand.

  • Choose the Right Chart: Select the chart type that best represents your data and the story you want to tell.
  • Keep it Simple: Avoid clutter and unnecessary decorations. The focus should be on the data.
  • Use Color and Labels Effectively: Use color to highlight important data points and labels to provide context.

3. Creating a Narrative

Your presentation should be more than just a series of charts. It should be a compelling story that guides your audience through your findings.

  • Start with the "Why": Begin by explaining the business problem and why it matters.
  • Build a Logical Flow: Organize your findings in a logical sequence that builds to a clear conclusion.
  • Highlight Key Insights: Don't just show the data; explain what it means and why it's important.
  • End with a Call to Action: Conclude your presentation with a clear recommendation or a call to action.

Exercises

  1. Jupyter Notebook: Create a Jupyter Notebook that details your data analysis process, including your code, visualizations, and a summary of your findings.
  2. Presentation Deck: Develop a slide deck that tells the story of your analysis, from the initial business problem to your final recommendations.
  3. Presentation Video: Record a short (5-10 minute) video of you presenting your findings. This is a great way to practice your communication skills.
