Day 88 β Capstone Project - Part 1
Introduction
This lesson marks the beginning of the capstone project. In this two-part project, you will apply the skills you've learned throughout the curriculum to a real-world business problem.
Project Scoping and Data Collection
A well-defined project scope is crucial for the success of any data analytics project. It provides a clear roadmap and helps to keep the project on track.
1. Define Project Objectives and Scope
Start by clearly defining the objectives and scope of your project. What problem are you trying to solve? What are the key questions you need to answer?
- Business Problem: A clear, concise statement of the problem you are trying to solve.
- Key Questions: A list of the specific questions your analysis will answer.
- Deliverables: What will you produce at the end of the project? (e.g., a report, a dashboard, a presentation)
- Out of Scope: What will you not be doing in this project? This is just as important as defining what is in scope.
2. Identify Data Sources and Key Metrics
Once you have a clear understanding of your project's objectives, the next step is to identify the data you will need.
- Data Sources: Where will you get your data? (e.g., internal databases, public datasets, APIs)
- Key Metrics: What are the key performance indicators (KPIs) that will help you measure success?
3. Develop a Data Analysis Plan
Create a detailed plan for how you will analyze the data and derive insights.
- Analysis Techniques: What statistical or analytical techniques will you use? (e.g., regression analysis, clustering, time-series analysis)
- Tools: What tools will you use for your analysis? (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Tableau)
- Timeline: Create a realistic timeline for your project, with milestones for each phase.
Exercises
- Project Proposal: Write a one-page project proposal that outlines the business problem, key questions, deliverables, and scope of your capstone project.
- Data Source Identification: Identify at least two potential data sources for your project. For each source, describe the data it contains and how you will access it.
- Project Plan: Create a high-level project plan with a timeline and key milestones.
